Sunday Dare, Nigeria’s Minister of Sports, and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) increased their efforts to have Nigeria host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
NFF President Amaju Pinnick and Dare were in Uyo on Friday and Saturday, holding various meetings to push the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and certain football federation presidents on the continent.
According to reports, Pinnick and Sunday Dare talked with CAF president Dr. Patrice Motsepe on Friday to brief him on Nigeria’s desire and preparedness to host the tournament in 2025.
On Saturday, Sunday Dare met with Dr. Motsepe in what seemed to be a formal meeting with the CAF president.
Nigeria is lobbying to host the 2025 Afcon due to the recent increase in major football facilities around the country.
The Black Stars of Ghana played in one of these major facilities that is the renovated Moshood Abiola Stadium.
The game was the second leg playoff for the 2022 World Cup in which Ghana drew 1-1 to book a place for the 2022 World Cup.
