Following a letter of appeal from the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) board dated June 17, 2022, signed by Musa Kida and addressed to the Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, the Federal Government has announced that Nigeria will once again compete in international basketball.
Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, said the decision was made after concerned stakeholders, former Nigerian international basketball players, and well-meaning Nigerians intervened to seek answers to the problems.
Recall that Nigeria’s withdrawal from all international basketball competitions was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari in May.
The punishment will remain for two years, according to Sunday Dare, Minister of Youth and Sports Development, who verified the news.
He had said that the change would enable the administration to focus on initiatives to revitalize the sport.
