NPFL Matchday 30 Review:Kano Pillars, Rivers United Win Away

After a hard-fought 3-2 away win against Dakkada in their matchday 30 match in Uyo on Saturday, Rivers United is closing in on their first Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) crown.

A total of 30 goals was scored as Plateau United recorded the highest goal margin victory of Matchday 30 of the NPFL.

Following the win, Stanley Eguma’s team maintained a seven-point lead over Plateau United in second place.

After a blunder by Samuel Akpan, Chijoke Akuneto opened the goal for Stanley Eguma’s team in the 21st minute.

Six minutes later, Edidiong Ezekiel equalised for the visitors.

In the 48th minute, Ezekiel gave his team the lead for the first time in the game.

Rivers United substitute Malachy Ohawume equalised eight minutes from time.

On the stroke of 90 minutes, Ohawume scored the game-winning goal for Rivers United.

Plateau United kept the pressure on leaders Rivers United with a 4-0 thrashing of Rangers at the New Jos Stadium in Jos.

The hosts took the lead in the ninth minute when Mohammed Zulkifilu scored from the penalty spot.

On the 26th minute, Philip Asiegbu’s penalty was saved by Suraj Ayeleso, denying the visitors a chance to equalise.

In the 37th minute, Zulkifilu punished Rangers’ disorganised defence by scoring his second goal from close range.

After keeper Seidu Mutawakilu failed to clear Daniel Itodo’s long throw-in, Chimezie Izuchukwu scrambled in the third goal in the 65th minute.

Sunday Anthony scored the fourth goal for the home team 13 minutes from time.

Enyimba, the eight-time champions, defeated Nasarawa United 3-2 in an exciting match in Aba.

Enyimba took the lead a minute before the break thanks to Samuel Onukwube.

Sunday Okereke nevertheless levelled for Nasarawa United four minutes after the break, but Enyimba reclaimed the lead through Chukwuemeka Obioma in the 52nd minute.

Enyimba were pegged back again in the 77th minute as Michael Tochukwu equalised from the penalty for the visitors.

Farouk Mohammed, a Ghanaian midfielder, converted the game-winning penalty three minutes from time.

Kano Pillars beat Remo Stars 3-1 in Ikenne for their second away win of the day.

Pillars’ Auwalu Ali scored a hat trick, while Sai Masu Gida’s Mark Daniel scored the other goal.

Remo Stars’ Ibrahim Yusuf scored the game’s first goal.

The increased the Pillars’ chances of avoiding the drop.

Holders Akwa United were defeated 1-0 by Kwara United, with Samad Kadiri netting the game-winning penalty on 38 minutes.

Heartland defeated Shooting Stars 3-1 in Okigwe.

On seven minutes, Gafar Olafimihan placed 3SC up, but Heartland rallied to win the tie thanks to Chukwudi Nwaodu, Adewole Adeniji, and Murphy Ndukwu.
