News from South Africa Mamelodi Sundowns: Mamelodi Sundowns and Nedbank present a multipurpose sports court to Soshanguve South Secondary School

Mamelodi Sundowns and Nedbank presented the seventh multipurpose sports court funded by Nedbank and erected by The Sports Trust to Soshanguve South Secondary School in Soshanguve on Monday, 19 September 2022. The Nedbank Cup 2021/2022 season winners, Mamelodi Sundowns. The handover was conducted on behalf of the Nedbank Cup 2021/2022 season winners, Mamelodi Sundowns conducted the handover alongside the Nedbank Group.

Bafana Ba Style club Chairman Tlhopie Motsepe, the club’s management team, and Academy player Ofentse Mashiane were present at the event to witness their chosen school being awarded the sports court in a bid to support sports development in the community. The Chairman and Mashiane additionally brightened the day for the school and students as they handed over a signed shirt  to the school.

Mamelodi Sundowns Chairman, Tlhopie Motsepe, shared the clubs vision and determination in sports development around communities and in the surrounding schools.” Everyone at Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club feels a deep sense of gratitude to have the privilege of nominating Soshanguve Secondary as the recipient of the multi-purpose sports court. The Nedbank Cup is a magical knockout tournament that gives teams from all divisions the opportunity to write their own history and claim glory”.

Present at the event to witness the handover were  Khensani Nobanda, who is the Nedbank Groups Marketing and Communications Executive; Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, School Principal Mr David Mahlangu and from the Premier Soccer League, Miss Nonhlanhla Nkosi.

Beaming with gratitude, the Soshanguve South Secondary School principal relayed a thank you message to the organisation involved in the sports court project. “We would like to thank Mamelodi Sundowns, Nedbank and The Sports Trust for this world-class facility and choosing our school. We believe this will benefit the kids greatly and will improve our community, giving them access to resources that they did not have before.”

The Clubs Chairman concluded by giving a vote of thanks to all the parties involved in the initiative. “As this year’s champions, we would like to thank Nedbank and the PSL for another scintillating installment of the competition, as well as all our opponents en route to our final victory. He ended on how the Nedbank Cup lives up to its title as “The One”; because as the club lifts the trophy as champions, it also had the honour of uplifting communities.
