News from South Africa Mamelodi Sundowns: Rousing return for Sedilame Boseja after Long Injury-lay Off

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies goalkeeper Sedilame ‘Tsontso’ Boseja finally made her long-awaited return from injury as The Brazilians trounced Durban Ladies 5-0 at the King Zwelithini Stadium in the third round of the Hollywoodbets Super League.

Boseja joined Banyana Ba Style in May last year after playing for Double Action and Bloemfontein Celtics. Unfortunately for her, she sustained a serious injury during her first training session with Sundowns Ladies, which required an operation.

Consequently, the Botswana goalie was unable to play any part in the Hollywoodbets Super League but was on hand to cheer her team as the Chloorkop -based side claimed the 2021 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League – COSAFA Qualifiers. Despite being on crutches, the shot-stopper was often seen motivating her team throughout the COSAFA tournament.

Although she was unable to participate in the inaugural edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League, she was registered for the tournament and subsequently received her winner’s medal. Thus, Boseja got into the history books as she became the first Motswana to bag a Champions League winner’s medal in both the men’s and women’s discipline.

During her lengthy injury lay-off, Boseja was often assisted by her teammates who took turns in ensuring that she experienced a seamless rehabilitation process. At various times, her teammates made several efforts to extend a helping hand to the goalkeeper to assist her during transportation and the likes, further highlighting the spirit of Ubuntu within the team.

Boseja who enjoyed a winning return against Durban Ladies and grabbed a clean sheet on her debut was delighted with her return to full fitness.

“It feels good to be back playing football with the team after a very long time off due to the serious injury I sustained which happened very early into my Sundowns career. I feel blessed to have incredible teammates, coaches, and physios around me because they have been extremely helpful during my lengthy injury layoff. It was not an easy period for me, but I am glad that those injury days are over and I am happy to be back in action. To keep a clean sheet on my return made it even sweeter for me,” a relieved Boseja stated.

In March, Boseja clinched the Botswana Women’s Award at the inaugural Hollywoodbets Super League awards ceremony. A few days later, she bagged the Sportswoman of the Year Award at the first Botswana Women’s Awards.

With Tsontso back to full fitness, Sundowns Ladies have a plethora of goalkeeping options available to Coach Jerry Tshabalala with Andile ‘Sticks’ Dlamini and Asa Rabalao all part of a star-studded goalkeeping unit.

Boseja is back with a bang!!!
