English legend Michael Owen criticizes his country’s coach, Gareth Southgate, for not using the best British talent during the match against the United States of America, on Friday, in the second round of the 2022 World Cup group stage.
Phil Foden, who Owen believes is the best English talent, remained on the bench from start to finish, despite two substitutions that Southgate did not make until the end.
Owen wrote, through his account on the global blogging site “Twitter”: “Amazed that we have used 14 players so far, while our most talented player is sitting on the bench.”
The former Liverpool and England star was not the only critic of Southgate, but he was followed by the famous broadcaster Piers Morgan, demanding that the Manchester City player be paid.
Some English fans also criticized the English coach for the same reason, especially in light of Foden’s brilliance with the Citizens this season.
