Deadline day signings are bad news for four Manchester United players – Isaac Johnson

There is still a question mark over striker options, although Anthony Martial is currently fit and new 72m arrival Rasmus Hojlund is due to make his debut against Arsenal on Sunday.

United are well stocked in other departments when everyone is available for selection. The Reds brought in seven players this window, including four on deadline day amid several injuries and departures.

As a result, some existing squad members may have concerns over their game time this season. The loan signing of Sofyan Amrabat is a coup of a capture as United finally find their supporting act for Casemiro.

He adds yet another string to Ten Hags midfield bow but it may leave Scott McTominay questioning where he fits in. The Scot has only enjoyed nine minutes of action this season and now sees another player come in ahead of him in the pecking order.

The situation could get worse when Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount return from injury, albeit they are different types of midfielders. Amrabat, though, is a direct threat to his desire for minutes and the academy product must be feeling apprehensive of what this season holds for him.

Meanwhile, Sergio Reguilons presence in the squad could cause Tyrell Malacia a headache when he returns. The extent of his unspecified problem is not clear but Luke Shaw is set to be out for at least two months.

Reguilon&aposs addition come as a result of Ten Hags angst over a shortage at left-back, although would drop behind Shaw in the selection order when he returns. Then it becomes a case of fighting Malacia for the back-up spot, and essentially three players are fighting for one place.

Malacia found it hard to get in when just Shaw was ahead of him and the arrival of Reguilon, while understandable, poses a threat to his squad role for the season. The return of Jonny Evans was unexpected but his experience will only help his teammates.

Harry Maguire is currently the fourth-choice centre-back option and Evans arrival looks ominous. Four centre-halves are surely enough for cover, especially with Shaws ability to play in the position, yet Ten Hag felt it necessary to bring in Evans.

Maguires first minutes at all this season may come for England and he must be worried for his place in the Euro 2024 squad next summer if he remains so low down in the United pecking order.
