Donny van de Beek set to leave Manchester United in transfer window

Van de Beek, 26, was free to go in the summer but a move never materialised and he was omitted from United&aposs Champions League squad.

The playmaker has played 21 minutes all season and Van de Beek admitted last week he was prepared to depart United in the New Year.

I think Donny has to play,” Ten Hag stressed. “In games he was in the squad, so he had the opportunity. It was a slow start to the season because he was still recovering from physical setbacks.

“But he is back now and he is doing really well in training, so if you cant give him perspective then I can see he has to play for his career and for everything.

Van de Beek has played 62 times since his 40million transfer from Ajax in September 2020 but only 23 of those have been starts. He has lined up only six times for United in the Premier League and joined Everton on loan in January 2022.

United will also seek to sell Jadon Sancho next month as his exile from the first team continues. Sancho has not played since August 26 after he publicly accused Ten Hag of lying over his omission from the matchday squad for the defeat at Arsenal on September 3.

Sancho, 23, has not trained with the United squad since the days before the Arsenal game and he has been banished to the academy building at their Carrington training complex.

Newcastle host United on Satursay night and are unbeaten in their three league games under Eddie Howe against them. Newcastle also humbled United 3-0 at Old Trafford in the League Cup fourth round last month.

United&aposs only win against Howe&aposs Newcastle was in the League Cup final. At his press conference ahead of that occasion in February, Ten Hag described Newcastle as “annoying” and criticised their time-wasting.

He insists it was a compliment. I didnt say that. The time-wasting: I made that point, clear. The term annoying was positive for them.
