The winger is yet to score or assist in 10 appearances this season and has come under scrutiny for his output. The Brazilian was particularly poor against Fulham on Saturday after failing to excite in the midweek defeat to Newcastle.
He had been seen shaking his head having not come on earlier than his 86th-minute entry during the derby defeat to Manchester City last Sunday. Antony clashed with Jeremy Doku after coming on, receiving a yellow card for a hefty swipe on the Belgian.
Now, the Mirror claims Erik ten Hag is willing to allow Antony to leave on loan in the new year. This seems very unlikely given United shelled out 85m for him just over a year ago, despite his slow start to the season.
Furthermore, it would leave a shortage on the right flank with Jadon Sancho destined to exit on loan in January amid his long-term standoff with the manager. The report suggests United would dive for Flamengo striker Gabriel Barbosa to ease the scoring burden on Rasmus Hojlund, who is yet to score in the Premier League.
Barbosa – also reportedly of interest to Milan – has scored 18 goals this season and could be available for as little as 20m, with United said to be set to offer Antony in part-exchange, but only on loan.
However, it is thought United are due to limit spending in January amid Financial Fair Play worries following a near 190m spend over the summer, and so there may not be 20m for Ten Hag to spend.
