Gary Neville could still be proved right on Liverpool claim despite Manchester United struggles

Naturally, a certain Jamie Carragher has got in on the act but there&aposs still more than enough time for United&aposs new signings to prove their former captain was correct. After all we are just five games into the new season.

United and Liverpool found themselves at a similar juncture this summer. Both needed reinforcements, particularly in midfield, and they needed them quickly.

Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat – eventually – were summoned to complement Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes among others, while Liverpool made four signings to offset the countless midfielders they had to let go in transition. Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai were first on board.

Wataru Endo and United target Ryan Gravenberch eventually followed them to Anfield, while Erik ten Hag made a late move to bring in Amrabat on loan from Italian side Fiorentina. Before those three deals, Neville made his point.

Speaking with Carragher on a pre-season special for his The Overlap show, the ex-United captain said: “When you look at the actual players, let&aposs take United as an example; Fernandes, Mount, Casemiro, Eriksen. I think that Jurgen Klopp would swap his midfield now for United&aposs…”
