The Blues earned their sport in the competition thanks to lifting the Champions League title in June when they defeated Inter Milan 1-0 with Rodri scoring the winner. They will travel to Saudi Arabia for the competition next month.
The seventh and final team participating was confirmed on Saturday night when the final of the Copa Libertadores took place. The South America equivalent of the Champions League showpiece saw Brazilian side Fluminense beat Argentine big-hitters Boca Juniors 2-1 after extra time in a game where both teams finished with 10 men.
Both City and Fluminense will go straight into the semi-finals of the tournament with the prospect of meeting in the showpiece. The tournament runs between Tuesday, December 12 and Friday, December 22 meaning the Blues will have to accommodate the competition during their already hectic Premier League schedule, with a fixture against Brentford already postponed.
