Manchester United confirm squad numbers for Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and three others

Hojlund signed for United in a 72million deal almost a month ago and was paraded around Old Trafford before the 3-1 pre-season friendly win over RC Lens. He is yet to feature for his new club after a stress fracture in his back was flagged during medical tests.

Over the last week, he has been in full first-team training and Erik ten Hag admitted he will be involved at the Emirates. The Danish international was not given a squad number instantly, with suggestions he could have taken the No.17 from Fred once he left for Fenerbahce.

However, with Mason Greenwood leaving on loan for Getafe the No.11 slot has opened up and Hojlund has taken hold of it. It is the same number that he wears on international duty with Denmark but one he has never worn at senior club level.

Alejandro Garnacho has taken over from Fred in wearing the No.17 shirt, a change that he had already confirmed with a picture on social media. The Argentinian had been wearing the No.49 and had been tipped as a potential No.7, before it was taken by summer signing Mason Mount.

Altay Bayindir and Sergio Reguilon both arrived at United on deadline day, filling last-minute gaps in the squad. Bayindir has taken hold of the No.1 shirt for his debut campaign in England, taking over from David De Gea, while Reguilon will wear the No.15 shirt last donned by Marcel Sabitzer.

After signing a short-term contract through pre-season, Jonny Evans extended his stay for another year. The Northern Ireland international is hoped to bring experience to the United squad and will wear the No.35.
