United had been looking to find Greenwood a move after announcing that he wouldnt be returning to the squad following an internal investigation into the allegations made against him on social media in January 2022.
The club opened their own review into the events after the Crown Prosecution Service announced in February it had dropped charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control. United confirmed on August 21 that they felt Greenwood didnt commit the offences for which he was initially charged, but felt it was best if he rebuilt his career away from Old Trafford.
That was a U-turn after their initial plan to bring him back into Erik ten Hags squad was the subject of significant supporter backlash. United have fielded plenty of interest in Greenwood over the last couple of weeks after announcing he would leave, but some clubs were put off by the potential reaction of their own supporters.
A United statement said: “Mason Greenwood has signed for La Liga side Getafe CF on a season-long loan, subject to international clearance.
