Manchester United icon Paul Scholes makes shock admission when asked if he was better than Steven Gerrard

Scholes and Gerrard were part of arguably England&aposs greatest-ever midfield set-up alongside Frank Lampard, but the pair were fierce rivals at club level with Manchester United and Liverpool respectively. During their playing days and since retirement, both have been constantly compared by rival fans.

Those from Manchester will point to Scholes&apos trophy cabinet as proof he was the superior midfielder, but Liverpool fans will cite their star&aposs longevity and ability to win the biggest matches on his own. A winner has never been declared by either side, and even Scholes was unable to nail down a decision.

The former Reds midfielder was quizzed on who he thought was better during prime years, admitting that he lacked the match-winning quality of Gerrard but was more part of a team.

“I can&apost answer that… Gerrard&aposs a great player,” Scholes told FIVE&aposs YouTube channel. “I&aposm not saying myself, we&aposre different, very different.

“He&aposs an athlete, he was more of a match-winner, but he was probably in a team where he had to be. I was more part of a team, he was more individual, I think.
