Galatasaray&aposs vice-president has claimed they had &aposlargely agreed&apos a deal to sign Sofyan Amrabat before Manchester United swooped in two days before transfer deadline day.
Throughout the summer, it seemed destined Amrabat would leave Fiorentina after performing admirably at last winter&aposs World Cup in Qatar. United were one of the clubs linked with the defensive midfielder and this interest was ramped up in August when it became apparent the Reds needed to bolster their options in his position.
However, the 27-year-old had his heart set on a move away from Florence and according to Erden Timur, Galatasaray were close to ensuring this wish was granted. But, the Reds&apos late interest changed the conversation.
Explaining what happened to a deal for the defensive midfielder, Timur said: “We largely agreed with Sofyan Amrabat. With Fiorentina, we were at a level where we could reach a point [of approval].”

Donny van de Beek could stay at Manchester United until January despite not being included in the 25-man squad for the group stages of the Champions League.
Van de Beek isn&apost moving to Saudi Arabia before tonight&aposs 10pm deadline for the Saudi Pro League and his only plausible exit route now is to Turkey, with their transfer window open until a week tomorrow (September 15).
Fenerbahce and Galatasaray have shown an interest in the 26-year-old this summer but a departure isn&apost seen as definite, even with eight days left of the transfer window for Turkish Super Lig clubs.
Galatasaray have been interested in a move for Van de Beek for several weeks, but they signed midfielder Tanguy Ndombele on loan from Tottenham on Tuesday and that could affect their move for the United midfielder. The two clubs are also in the same Champions League group.
