News From Manchester: Frenkie de Jong drops transfer hint as Man United owners explore ‘takeover’ of another club

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has indicated that he will be staying at the Nou Camp next season.

The midfielder is a target for Manchester United with Erik ten Hag keen to rekindle their Ajax relationship. The pair have a strong bond after helping the Dutch giants to within seconds of the 2019 Champions League final prior to De Jongs exit six months later.

Ten Hag is expected to produce a squad overhaul this summer, with midfield recruitment high on the priority list. The 52-year-old will start his tenure at United with limited resources in the centre of the park when Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Paul Pogba all leave next month.

Manchester United are looking into the possibility of taking over an Indian football club according to a former cricketer who is facilitating the deal.

Ex-India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly has told the Telegraph in India that United are interested in purchasing East Bengal who play in the Indian Super League. When asked by the Indian newspaper whether United were hoping to come on board as investors, Ganguly said: “No, no (they are coming) as an owner.

“It takes some time. First, let it reach a stage then we will make a comment.”
