News From Manchester: Ruben Neves hints at Wolves departure amid Manchester United transfer speculation

United are in need of a big summer transfer window after suffering their worst ever Premier League campaign, which ended in another defeat on Sunday leaving them sat on just 58 points. New manager Erik ten Hag has now officially been unveiled and he has a difficult task ahead of him.

Ralf Rangnick has suggested that United need to sign 10 new players and though that seems unlikely, several signings are being targeted, with midfield being the biggest priority. United are in desperate need of a dedicated defensive midfielder while a more dynamic, box-to-box player is also being targeted.

It's understood that the club are weighing up a 75million move for Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong, with Ten Hag keen to be reunited with a player he enjoyed a lot of success with at Ajax. Barcelona's continued financial trouble means they need to raise funds to complete any signings of their own and De Jong is one of their few expendable assets who would fetch a high price.

However, any deal for the Dutchman would be difficult due to United's lack of Champions League football and Wolves talisman Neves has been repeatedly touted as a possible alternative. A number of Premier League clubs have also been linked with the Portuguese, who strongly hinted he could be leaving the Black Country side this summer.

Following Wolves' final home match of the season, the 25-year-old appeared to wave goodbye to the supporters and looked emotional as he walked around the pitch for a lap of honour. He has now admitted that he could have played his final match for them.

Lets see what happens. I cannot say too much about it, said Neves when asked about his future following the final day defeat to Liverpool. If I go it would be really hard for me and my family.
