Lewis was a surprise starter on the eve of his 19th birthday as England drew 1-1 in North Macedonia. The teenager was unfortunate to have a penalty given against him following a VAR intervention but didn&apost look out of place with the first team.
His versatility will give Southgate a fresh headache when it comes to picking his squad for next summer&aposs Euro 2024 in Germany. But Lewis isn&apost looking that far ahead, instead enjoying the milestone of a senior international debut.
“Obviously overall I&aposm very happy,” Lewis told Channel 4 after full-time. “Unfortunately the result and obviously the decision that went against me.
“But overall, I&aposm so happy to have made my debut first of all before my birthday, it was a lovely birthday present and to do it with the people around me. I couldn&apost have dreamed of anything better.
“I&aposm not really focused on any tournaments or anything in the future. All I can do is focus on myself and what I can do to get better. Whatever will be, will be, I just need to focus on what I can improve on and then we&aposll see what happens.”
