Kicking off with an episode entitled &aposWelcome Back to Wrexham&apos, it recaps the first season including some background on how the show came to be, the task that lay ahead for everyone involved in running the club as well as the heart-breaking play-off semi-final defeat at the end of 2021/2022. Season two is expected to be a rollercoaster of a series that will shed light on Wrexham&aposs remarkable return to the Football League and if episode one is anything to go by, those expectations will be met.
So, with episode one now available to stream on Disney+, we&aposve taken a look at five of the biggest moments and what we learned now we&aposre back, once again, in Wrexham.
Welcome to Wrexham is back to take you behind the scenes at the Welsh club following the superstar takeover by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Season two will give viewers unmissable access to Wrexham&aposs successful promotion from the National League after an intense battle with Nott County.
Limited offer of 1.99 a month for three months
We begin with a recap where Ryan Reynolds, rather candidly, discusses Wrexham&aposs position on and off the field and claims the club was not in a very good place when he and Rob McElhenney took over. The pair also talk about the devastating play-off semi-final defeat as well as show how far the club has come since the Hollywood duo took the reins by introducing us to new Wrexham fans from America, Portugal and Brazil.
Reynolds and McElhenney reveal the stark reality for the club in the opening few moments when they admit that the club has to gain promotion to the Football League in order for them to justify the big outlays on player transfer fees, wages and stadium development costs. As any football fan will know, and spoilers ahead if you somehow don&apost, but Wrexham did achieve their goal. However it doesn&apost take away from the do-or-die drama at the heart of this series.
King Charles III makes a visit to Wrexham and Reynolds and McElhenney are slightly speechless at the prospect of meeting him. We see the duo taking on an etiquette coach to refine their bowing and handshakes, and Rob and Ryan exchange pleasantries with the Monarch and the Queen Consort in what they hope will be a meeting that will help them secure more funding.
Wrexham&aposs opening game of the 22/23 season isn&apost going to plan as they&aposre 1-0 down to Eastleigh until new signing Elliot Lee comes on for his debut in the second half. The dynamic midfielder gets his Wrexham career off to a stunning start as he scores two goals to turn the game on its head and claim the three points for the Welsh side.Lee&aposs impact on the game sends the fans in the stands into raptures. It would be the start of a successful season with Wrexham for Lee who would go on to justify the fans&apos excitement with a stunning campaign in which he bagged 15 goals in all competitions to help them secure promotion.
