Squad numbers available to Pep Guardiola as Man City assess unlikely transfer options

With the Blues manager confirming back in November that City will not entertain any business this month, Guardiola will hope his side can narrow the lead Arsenal current hold over the 21/22 champions.

Star striker Erling Haaland and fellow forward Julian Alvarez are expected to build on their success in 2022 at the club following Argentina&aposs dramatic victory over France in the final.

With no incomings planned, Guardiola may use the time to assess how some of his younger players have fared at the start of their footballing journeys. Both Tommy Doyle and James McAtee are enjoying strong spells with Sheffield United, with the latter having played 18 times so far the Blades this season.

One question will be around Liam Delap and his time at Stoke City, with the forward scoring just three times for the Potters, despite being a regular under Alex Neil so far in Staffordshire. Often left frustrated at the lack of service, the 19-year-old will hope to kick on in 2023.

With the midfield area the only cause for concern heading into the new year, it seems City will wait it out to see if any further progression is made regarding the futures of Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva, Jude Bellingham is the obvious target for Guardiola this summer, with the Dortmund star likely to receive a plethora of options to leave the Bundesliga.
