Pep Guardiola&aposs side progressed into the quarter-finals of the competition for the fifth consecutive year with a routine victory at Ashton Gate against Championship opposition, Foden&aposs brace followed by a wonderful long-range effort from Kevin De Bruyne.
City boss Guardiola rested both Erling Haaland and Rodri but kept a strong side for the trip to Bristol, with Foden handed a rare start on the left. The 22-year-old had been benched for the previous two games against Aston Villa and Arsenal, with the in-form Jack Grealish taking his spot.
Handed the chance to impress midweek, however, the England international grabbed the opportunity with both hands, netting a brace as part of a brilliant all-round performance. Foden opened the scoring on seven minutes, slotting home a Riyad Mahrez cut-back after a sweeping City move.
Despite the Blues&apos dominance, it took until 74 minutes for the Stockport-born star to add a second, passing home another swift move via a large deflection. De Bruyne made it three seven minutes later but it was Foden who gained all the plaudits, with City supporters taking to Twitter after he was substituted off to share their appreciation.
