‘Will cook’ – Manchester United fans love Erik ten Hag selection decision vs Newcastle United

United saw their chances of progressing into the Champions League knockout stages reduced with Wednesday&aposs 3-3 draw at Galatasaray. Alejandro Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay scored for the Reds but an error-strewn Andre Onana allowed the Turkish side back into the game.

Ten Hag&aposs side have enjoyed an encouraging run of results with five wins in their last six Premier League games, but face the toughest fixture of that run at Newcastle this evening. Eddie Howe&aposs side have a number of injuries to contend with but had an extra day&aposs rest, having drawn at Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

Onana was twice at fault in Wednesday&aposs draw but the Cameroon international had been improving before hand and has three straight Premier League clean sheets under his belt. He starts behind Harry Maguire and, for the first time as a centre-back partner, Luke Shaw.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been picked to start at right-back, with the hope he can manage the in-form Anthony Gordon. Diogo Dalot, meanwhile, will move across to the left.

Questions were raised when Mainoo was dropped in midweek, given he was the best player on the pitch at Goodison Park. Ten Hag insisted he needs to manage the 18-year-old&aposs minutes but he is ready to start this evening, anchoring the midfield behind McTominay and Fernandes.

Antony produced one of his better performances of the season – admittedly from a low bar – in Istanbul but Ten Hag has opted to return to the front-three that brought success at Everton, with Garnacho and Marcus Rashford either side of Anthony Martial. Rasmus Hojlund is on the bench.

And as news came out of the starting line-up, United fans took to social media to share their reaction.
