Borussia Dortmund aims to improve full-back positions in winter

Bild reports that Borussia Dortmund will aim to improve their full-back positions in the winter after the first quarter of the season showed that they are glaring weak points for the club.

Despite signing Ramy Bensebaini on a free transfer in the summer from Borussia Mönchengladbach, the Algerian has failed to impress when playing for Dortmund. Right-back Marius Wolf has never shown that he is a good enough option at right-back for the club while Julien Ryerson has proven to be reliable but his ceiling at the club is as a backup.

This is prompting Dortmund to venture into the transfer market in the winter to solve these issues. Chelsea’s Trevor Chalobah is an option for right-back while Real Betis’ Juan Miranda is a candidate to challenge Bensebaini at left-back.

However, to facilitate any moves in the winter, Thomas Meunier will need to be sold. The 32-year-old has fallen out of favour at Dortmund and with the Euros on the horizon in the summer, Meunier will need to leave if he wants a chance of playing for Belgium in Germany.

The Belgian currently earns eight million euros a year and this money could easily be used for an incoming or two similar to when Thorgan Hazard departed the Schwarzgelben in the summer.
