Germany’s latest wonderkid Can Uzun signs first professional contract at Nürnberg

2. Bundesliga side Nürnberg announced that Germany’s latest wonderkid, Can Uzun (18), has signed his first professional contract dating until June 2026.

“Can is an exceptional talent who demonstrated his abilities in the professional field at a very young age,” said Nürnberg sporting director Olaf Rebbe. “We are pleased that we can follow this path together with him and are committed to continuing to develop it further. With his 18th birthday, he has now reached the professional level on paper.”

Uzun already has six goal contributions (five goals and one assist) in 13 2. Bundesliga games for Nürnberg this season. His performances at that level has attracted interest from Premier League’s Brighton who could offer in excess of €10m for the 18-year-old German youth international.

Predominately an attacking-midfielder, Uzun has also operated as a centre forward this season. A prolific scorer at youth level, Uzun has 27 goals in 20 games for Nürnberg’s U17s and 20 goals and five assists in 19 games for the U19 side.

“I have the best conditions here at Nürnberg in the current phase of my career to develop,” added Uzun. “Our coach, the management and my teammates have placed their trust in me, and I try to repay that with good performances.”

But although born in Regensburg, Uzun has represented Turkey at youth level. However, yet to earn a cap for the national team, Germany remain hopeful that Uzun will opt to represent Die Mannschaft.
