Ghana’s David Atanga scores twice against Mechelen

KV Oostende won their first game of the season at the Versluys Arena thanks to a brace from David Atanga.

Oostende started the game well and immediately put pressure on Mechelen. The pressure paid off, Batzner provided a razor-sharp pass to Atanga who made it 1-0.

Mechelen had a hard time and couldn’t control the tempo in the game.

Oostende scored again in the 43rd minute, a deep ball from Medley found Batzner, and the German assisted Atanga again.

Thibault Peyre scored the consolation goal for the visitors in the 75th minute.

KV Oostende announced the signing of Atanga on a three-year deal on 6 August 2021 from Holstein Kiel.

Atanga has played five times for Ghana at U20 level, winning four of those caps during the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
