Latest Football News From Manchester: Hayley Ladd’s header seals victory for Manchester United Women against Reading

The away side opened the scoring through Leah Galton, but a Millie Turner own goal saw the Royals level before Hayley Ladd headed home in the final ten minutes.

United extended their unbeaten record this season and manager Casey Stoney was pleased her side were on the right side of the result.

It wasnt our best performance, Stoney said. Its what we call an ugly win. But a win is a win, and it keeps us in and around the top three which is where we want to be.

Reading started the matched on the front foot and had early chances through Jess Fishlock who shot from the edge of the box.

United went in front in the 32nd minute when a counter-attack saw Ladd send Galton through and her shot powered in past goalkeeper Grace Moloney.

The Royals levelled the game early in the second-half when Fishlocks shot was deflected in by Turner leaving Moloney stranded.

Both sides continued to battle hard with Deanna Cooper firing into the side-netting for the hosts while Uniteds Jane Ross was unable to score from close range.

The Reds got themselves in front when Ona Batlles delivery from the corner was flicked off a Reading player and Ladd, unmarked in the six-yard box, guided the ball home.
