Before United's pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia, Ronaldo made it clear to the Reds that he would wish to make a move away from Old Trafford should a 'reasonable bid' be submitted for his services. A couple of days later, the 37-year-old did not return to pre-season training due to 'family reasons'.
Ronaldo would go on to miss the tour and only returned to Carrington this week for crunch talks with Erik ten Hag. It would appear that the Portuguese ace will be staying at Old Trafford due to a lack of interest in his services.
Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Chelsea were all rumoured to be interested but no offer was ever submitted. Now it would seem that Mourinho's comments about Ronaldo are not correct.
Back when he was United manager, rumours surfaced that Ronaldo could be on the verge of a return to the Theatre of Dreams. When posed the question in a press conference, Mourinho said: “Madrid is on fire – the results are not good.
“But it's a club where I worked for three years and I care about the club. I think I should be the last one to add some fuel to the fire. To put some water on the fire, I would say Cristiano is the kind of player that every manager wants, every club wants, but only one manager can have and only one club can have – Zidane and Real Madrid. That's my feeling.”
Of course Ronaldo would eventually move to Juventus before United proving that his forever home was not the Bernabeu. Following a window where Ronaldo has not been able to find a better club to move to it would appear that, contrary to Mourinho's comments, not every club wants the legendary forward.
