News From Manchester: Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United problem has already been solved by Erik ten Hag – Isaac Johnson

The attacker was pictured back at Carrington for the first time since the end of last season on Tuesday morning, with agent Jorge Mendes ominously by his side. As things stand, the superstar still wishes to leave the club less than 12 months after his arrival.

Ronaldo was unable to travel with the squad for their pre-season tour this month due to family reasons, so their meeting would have been perhaps only the second time they had met face to face. The new United boss had previously publicly underlined that the striker is part of his plans and is not for sale.

However, Ronaldo is not content that his salary has been reduced by 25 per cent amid Uniteds top-four failure last year – a caveat that has been applied squad-wide. Another sticking point for the 37-year-old at the time of his transfer request was the clubs slow transfer activity.

But since then, Ten Hag has managed to bring in Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez. He may not stop there either, with the Dutchman looking for right-back reinforcements, with another attacker not out of the question either.

As such, it seems one of Ronaldos qualms has surely been quashed. And Ten Hag might be able to quell another soon.

United have been in scintillating form this summer, winning three friendlies and narrowly drawing another. They will hope to continue this momentum into their two final friendly games this weekend before their opening Premier League fixture with Brighton on August 7.

If United start off well and the results start rolling in within the first month or so, it could change Ronaldos mind about the clubs low chances of silverware next season – said to be the final of his three issues.
