Cristiano Ronaldo sends Portugal message as Erik ten Hag breaks silence after Man United exit

Cristiano Ronaldo praised his Portugal teammates&apos performance after Switzerland were hammered 6-1 in the last 16 of the World Cup.

Former Manchester United man Ronaldo is the captain of his country and started every group game as they finished top of Group H. Portugal did labour at points, though, as they only scraped past Ghana with a 3-2 win before losing to South Korea in their final match.

Ronaldo managed only one goal, a penalty in the opening game, but it still came as a surprise to many that he was axed for the game against Switzerland.

Erik ten Hag has spoken about Cristiano Ronaldo&aposs exit from Manchester United for the first time, issuing a blunt response to a question about the departed Portugal superstar.

Ronaldo&aposs contract was terminated by United last month following an incendiary interview he gave to Piers Morgan, in which he criticised Ten Hag, the Glazers and the club in general.

Ronaldo had returned to United on a two-year contract with the option of an additional year in August 2021, but his second stint in Manchester lasted just 15 months.
