The free transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo to Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia has shown that the league isn’t as bad as painted by most Nigerians according to Tony Nwakaeme.
Ronaldo joined the Saudi side on a two year deal, six months after Nwakaeme shunned interest from teams in top leagues in favor of a move to Al Fayha who are also in the same league. The move drew harsh criticism from a section of the press in Nigeria.
Nwakaeme who has one cap for the senior national team of Nigeria which came in 2018 has so far scored six goals in nine games with two assists as well. He says it’s however not getting the attention he deserves with his form.
When asked about if the coming of Ronaldo will make people to beam more searchlight on the league, the 33 year old said it will definitely be the case and says he hopes the league gets the respect he feels they have always deserve.
” Ronaldo is here, so we should have some respect for the league with such a global icon now playing here. To me it will help people back home to appreciate what I am doing here as they don’t seem to care that I have been doing excellenty well”, he told OwnGoalNigeria.com.
