Clash of Fire between Senegal and Ecuador at the Qatar World Cup

Senegal and Ecuador are in a heated confrontation on Tuesday to climb to the round of 16 at the World Cup, currently being held in Qatar.

The two teams will meet at the end of Group I competitions in the group stage of the competition, which is witnessing another confrontation between the Netherlands and Qatar.

While Qatar officially bid farewell to the tournament, with fourth place in group rankings, with no points, the conflict seems to be strongest between the Netherlands, Ecuador and Senegal to capture the tickets to climb from that group to the knockout rounds.

The Netherlands and Ecuador share the lead with 4 points each, with the same goal difference, both scoring 3 goals and scoring 1 goal, and leading by a point ahead of third-placed Senegal.

The draw point will be enough for Ecuador, who are participating in the World Cup for the fourth time in their history, to pass the group stage for the second time in their history, after achieving the same achievement with the competition version held in Germany in 2006.

Ecuadorian national team hijacked the spotlight at the World Cup, after the remarkable level they appeared in the group, where they achieved a well-deserved victory (2-0) over Qatar in the opening match, and appeared wonderfully against the Dutch team in their second round match, which ended in a draw (1-1).

Ecuador owes a great credit for their signature appearance in the tournament to veteran star Ener Valencia, who has scored all three of the team goals in the current edition so far.

Valencia, 33, is the last six goals scored by Ecuador at the World Cup, after also scoring the team’s last three goals in their last World Cup appearance at the 2014 edition in Brazil.

Valencia became the first player in World Cup history to score that number of consecutive goals for a South American team.

However, the fans of the Latin national team hold their breath after the injury suffered by the Turkish player Fenerbahce during the Netherlands, which caused him to leave the stadium of the match on “Mahfa”, making his participation in the decisive confrontation against Senegal in doubt.

On the other hand, Senegalese, which is playing in the World Cup for the third time in its history, is playing the match and has no choice but to win, to rise to the knockout rounds for the second time in its history in the championship, after the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan, which saw them reach the quarter-finals.

Despite suffering from the absence of his star Sadio Mane and his exclusion from the team’s list of the World Cup a few days before the start of the competition, Senegal proved their ability to play for adults, as revealed by their last two games in the group.

Senegal have been the best side for most of their encounter with the Netherlands, despite losing 0-2 to the mills, which have scored their goals in the last minutes.

In the second meeting against Qatar, the Tiranga Lions team showed more of their abilities, achieving a convincing victory (3-1) over the Annabi team, and reviving their hopes of climbing to the round of 16 in the tournament again.

Senegal are looking for their first victory over one of the South American teams in the World Cup, after drawing 3-3) with Uruguay in the 2002 edition, losing (0-1) to Colombia last World Cup in Russia in 2018.

Senegal coach Aliu Cissé stressed his team’s readiness to cross his Ecuadorian counterpart, saying: “Our goal is to win the next game for sure.”

“We were disappointed after the loss to the Netherlands, and the victory over Qatar came as a big motivation for us to excel in the upcoming meetings,” the coach of Senegal said.

“Senegal or any African or Asian team can be crowned in the World Cup, it has completely changed from the past, and I think the current World Cup will be very interesting.”
