Portugal coach Fernando Santos insisted his country could win the 2022 World Cup, scheduled to be held in Qatar from November 20 to December 18.
“We’ve noticed and analyzed everything in these months, and out list is based on that,” Santos said in remarks highlighted by Italy’s website Tutu Mercato Webb.
“We want to get the players to perform best both defensively and offensively, even through the changes we make during games,” the Portugal coach added.
The numbers expose everything. Is Ronaldo’s era over?
“We could have made other choices, but there were doubts until the end because the characteristics of the players are the same, we take all responsibility for these choices,” he added.
On the absence of players like Renato Sanchez and others, Santos said: “We don’t have to focus on individual issues, we have to think about what’s best for the team.”
“I think we can win the Qatar World Cup, this team can do that, while France is the nominated team after winning the 2018 World Cup.
On what he can offer Commander Cristiano Ronaldo, Santos said: “We will try to take advantage of Ronaldo’s skills alongside the rest of his teammates.”
