Cameroon coach Rigobert Song explained the decision to exclude Andre Onana, goalkeeper of the national team and Inter Milan, from today’s match against Serbia in the 2022 World Cup.
“He is an important player, but we are in a difficult tournament,” Song said.
He added, “I know what I have to do, and I must always ensure that the team takes priority over any individual.”
“Andre wanted to get out of the list and we accepted that situation,” he said.
Several reports indicated that a rift had already occurred between Song and Onana.
Minutes before the official formation of Cameroon was announced, reports emerged indicating that the coach of the Untamed Lions had excluded his goalkeeper for disciplinary reasons.
Davis Abasi, the Saudi Abha goalkeeper, participated despite having only 5 international matches in his balance before the World Cup, the last of which was in November last year.
Cameroon tied with Serbia with three goals for the same, in the second round of the group stage in the World Cup Qatar.
